Part of my journey when creating a simple home was learning how to be intentional about what I brought into my home. Often people shy away from the world of minimalism because they view it as restrictive. However, I disagree, it is not about depriving yourself, it is actually the opposite. It is about surrounding yourself and your home with only things that bring you joy and peace.
For me the focus is not about what I need to get rid of, but what I want to keep. Creating a home and a life that only focuses on the best of the best, quality over quantity mindset. In fact, one of the key values behind minimalism is clearing out the clutter so that you can make space for more of what matters to you.
So, how can we still treat and reward ourselves while also ending the never-ending clutter cycle? Below are 5 different ways you can treat yourself that don’t involve spending much money or accumulating more unnecessary stuff.
1. Go on a weekend adventure. This could be a mini vacation exploring a new town or an inexpensive nature adventure.
2. Indulge in a spa treatment or take yourself to a new fancy restaurant.
3. Focus on experiences instead of things. What is that thing you have always wanted to do? Skydiving, Horseback riding, Escape Room?
4. Make space for some devoted quiet time. Try reading a book, taking a bath, meditating, or even coloring.
5. Prioritize learning new skill or start a creative project. Tackle a DIY project or take a cooking class.
I hope these ideas have given you some inspiration. As mentioned, creating a simple home doesn’t have to be restrictive so if you want to treat yourself to a physical item go for it! It is just about balancing and deciding which items are worth taking up your time and space.
I’d love to hear your favorite way to treat yourself, feel free to comment and let me know!
